United States Electronic Diversity Visa Program – Green Card Lottery

About the Green Card Lottery

Up to 50,000 immigrant visas are offered each year through the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, often known as the Green Card Lottery. The lottery chooses qualified candidates at random from countries with low immigration rates to the United States.

Diversity Visas are divided among six geographic areas, with no single nation receiving more than 7% of the total Diversity Visas in any given year. This fair distribution gives future potential immigrants from these areas a better chance.

The Next US Green Card Lottery

The Green Card Lottery usually begins in early October and ends in early November, but there is no news yet on specific dates for this year.

How to Enter the US Green Card Lottery

Participants must first register for the lottery. They must then wait to receive their outcome. The candidate must validate their credentials after winning the Green Card Lottery. A lottery winner’s win will only be counted if they are really qualified.

They must next file an application for an immigration visa and alien registration. The applicant will continue to the interview stage if/when a visa number becomes available. They will learn if their application has been approved or denied after the interview.
